How do I cancel an order?

If you need to cancel your order, please get in touch with us by email before the shipping notification is sent. For cancellations after the shipping notification, you will be responsible for the round-trip shipping costs. For cancellations after delivery due to personal reasons, you will also be responsible for the round-trip shipping costs.

Can I place multiple orders?

Multiple orders are possible. If you would like them shipped together, please place your orders simultaneously. (If you place separate orders but contact us by email, we can also arrange combined shipping.)

How much is international shipping?

Shipping from our warehouse to your home is included in the product price. However, any local taxes or duties at the destination must be paid separately by the customer.

How long does shipping take?

We offer two product categories, each with different shipping timelines:

- Standard Products (In-Stock): Ships within 1–2 weeks
- Standard Products (Out of Stock): Ships as soon as manufacturing is completed (please get in touch with us for availability).
- Made-to-Order Products: Ships within 1–2 months

*Note:* Orders placed during holidays or extended breaks (e.g., New Year's, Golden Week) may take longer to process.

Delivery is made to your door. If you would like indoor delivery or assembly service, a separate quote will be provided.

Returns & Exchanges

How do I return an item?

You may request a return within 7 days of receiving your item. To be eligible, the product must be in the same condition as when received—unused, with tags attached, and in the original packaging. If you wish to return an item, please get in touch with us by email.

Can I return an item if it arrives damaged or defective?

If your item arrives with damage or defects, please get in touch with us within 7 days of delivery. We will arrange for an exchange or return.

Which carrier should I use for returns?

I don't want to pay customs duties—will my order be automatically canceled if I decline to pay?

If customs duties or taxes remain unpaid and the order is returned, the actual shipping costs will be charged to you, and the order will be canceled.

How can I place a custom order?

For custom orders, please get in touch with us via email. Since pricing differs from standard products, we will first provide you with a quote.

What kinds of customization are possible?

Our company is based in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a region in Japan renowned for its furniture craftsmanship. We can accommodate a wide range of custom requests, including changes to size, wood type, or even fully custom-made orders.

Inventory & Availability

How can I check if an item is in stock?

We offer two different product categories:- Standard products- Made-to-order products (crafted after your order is placed)For the stock status of standard products, please get in touch with us directly.

When will out-of-stock items be restocked?

If a standard product is out of stock, delivery may take longer than usual. In that case, we will contact you by email once your order has been placed.

Warranty

Is there a warranty period?

Our products come with a one-year warranty.All of the furniture we offer is crafted in factories within Japan and meets high-quality standards. In the unlikely event of an initial defect or manufacturing issue, please get in touch with us within 7 days of delivery. After reviewing the situation, we will provide free repair or replacement.Please note that damage from customer use, stains, natural aging, or misuse is not covered under the warranty.

How is my personal data handled?

We collect personal information solely for the purpose of processing orders, shipping, and providing customer support. All data is securely managed through Shopify.

Physical Store Store

Do you have a physical store?

We have a showroom and office in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading furniture-producing regions. Wood samples are available, but please note that not all products are on display.If you contact us in advance, we can prepare the items you wish to see. Factory tours are also available upon request (advance reservation required).

Kimono Storage

Can I store the kimono directly in the drawer?

It is highly recommended that you wrap your kimono in tatoushi paper (traditional Japanese washi paper) before storing it in the drawer. This helps protect the fabric from dust, humidity, and discoloration.

What are tatoushi paper & kimono hangers?

Tatoushi Paper
Tatoushi paper is a unique wrapping paper for kimono, essential for preserving your garments in pristine condition. It helps prevent dust, moisture, and discoloration, ensuring your kimono remains in top shape for years.

Kimono hanger
A kimono hanger is a specially designed hanger used to store and maintain kimonos properly. Unlike regular clothing hangers, it is crafted to preserve the shape and fabric of a kimono without causing wrinkles or damage.

Should I use mothballs or insect repellents?

While the natural properties of paulownia wood help deter insects, using mothballs or insect repellents can provide additional protection. However, avoid placing them directly on the fabric.

Kotatsu

What is a kotatsu, and how do you use it?

A kotatsu is a traditional Japanese heating table with a small heater installed underneath and a special blanket draped over the top. When you place your legs under the blanket, the heater warms the space, keeping you cozy even during the coldest winter days. In warmer seasons, you can remove the blanket and use it as a regular table.

Can I purchase the kotatsu table and the blanket separately?

The kotatsu table and blanket can be purchased separately.

What voltage does it support?

The unit operates on 100 V, 50/60 Hz. If you are using it in a region with a different voltage (such as North America or Europe), please use a compatible transformer.

Can the heater unit be removed?

The heater unit is removable. Its dimensions are approximately 290 × 290 × 50 mm (11.4 × 11.4 × 2 inches).

Lamp

How long do the light bulbs last? If one burns out, how should it be replaced?

The LED lifespan is approximately 40,000 hours, which averages about 10 years of use. If a bulb burns out, the entire dedicated unit will need to be replaced. In that case, please get in touch with Okawa Furniture.

The shape of the power plug follows the standard of which country?

The power connection utilizes a USB terminal, with a cable length of approximately 92.5 inches (235 cm) from the terminal to the bulb.

Is assembly required? Is an instruction manual provided in English?

No assembly is required. An instruction manual with a simple English translation is included.

Table

Can the table size be customized?

Yes, the table size can be customized to your preference (with some limitations). If you would like customization, please don't hesitate to contact us through our Contact Us page.

Does the table require assembly? Is an English instruction manual included?

For delivery, some products may arrive with the legs detached. Attaching the legs can be done easily with tools or by hand. A simple English instruction manual will be included.

Does the care method differ depending on the type of finish?

Care instructions by finish:

Urethane Finish:
Maintenance-free for daily use. Wipe with a well-wrung damp cloth. Be sure to wipe up water quickly, as prolonged contact may leave stains.

Oil Finish:
For everyday care, use a dry cloth or a well-wrung damp cloth to remove dust or dirt. Water drops may cause ring stains, so please take care. To prevent wood from drying and cracking, apply furniture oil periodically to maintain its condition.

Unfinished Wood:
Care is the same as an oil finish. Since the wood is untreated, it is more sensitive to dirt and moisture. However, stains can be removed with light sanding, and you may also maintain it with a furniture oil of your choice.

Chair

Will the chair arrive fully assembled, or is assembly required?

The chairs are delivered fully assembled.

Can the seat height be adjusted?

Since they are made of solid wood, they do not have adjustable height mechanisms. However, if you would like the seat height customized, we can make adjustments before shipping. If you are unsure about your size, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Is there a table-and-chair set available for purchase?

We apologize, but table-and-chair sets are currently unavailable. That said, Okawa Furniture offers a wide variety of tables; please take a look at our Table Collection to find the perfect match for you.

Is natural wood used, and is the surface smooth?

All of our chairs are crafted from natural wood. Each piece is carefully hand-sanded by our artisans, resulting in a smooth surface and a beautifully refined finish.

Mirror

Are wall-mounting brackets included?

Wall-mounting brackets are not included. Installation should be carried out by the customer.

Does the mirror surface reflect clearly without distortion?

The mirror surface reflects clearly without distortion.

How heavy is the mirror, and can I install it myself?

The weight varies by size (slight differences may occur depending on the wood type):
- 60 × 50 cm: approx. 6 kg (about 13 lbs)
- 110 × 60 cm: approx. 15 kg (about 33 lbs)
- 120 × 90 cm: approx. 30 kg (about 66 lbs)
