A First Step Toward the “Pottery Shard Museum”: Our Paulownia Chest Featured by Hanamatsuri Kiln

We’re honored to share that Hanamatsuri Kiln (run by Fujiyuri, an art educator) introduced our made-to-order storage chest in her blog post: “Pottery Shard Museum” Display Cabinet (Tansu Chest) Arrival | Hanamatsuri Kiln Blog .

The piece featured is a semi-custom paulownia (kiri) wood tansu chest, originally developed as a kimono chest. However, it was designed to look elegant not only in traditional Japanese interiors, but also in modern Western-style rooms—making it a great fit for creative, unexpected uses.

In this case, the chest is being used as a reference and display cabinet for precious pottery shards—an inspiring example of how furniture can gain new meaning depending on how it’s used.

“I loved the sample in the showroom, but seeing it in person, its simple yet stylish presence made me truly glad I ordered it.”

— Quoted from the Hanamatsuri Kiln blog (translated)

The post also shares thoughtful ideas for organizing and presenting items inside drawer-style storage—drawing inspiration from museum display techniques. We found it especially meaningful because this aligns with what we aim for: furniture that supports people’s crafts, collections, and daily lives for many years.

  • Minimal, timeless design that blends into various interiors
  • Gentle texture and character of paulownia wood
  • Drawer structure adaptable for archiving, display, and careful storage

Hanamatsuri Kiln has kindly chosen our furniture before as well, including a display shelf for soba-choko cups.

We’re deeply grateful for this continued trust—and delighted to see our furniture contribute to the launch of the “Pottery Shard Museum” project.
