Why We Offer High-Quality Japanese Kotatsu Tables
Share
At our company, we offer high-quality Japanese-made kotatsu tables both domestically and through this international store.
But what exactly makes them “high-quality”?
In this article, we’d like to explain the key features that set authentic Japanese kotatsu apart.
◆ Differences in Materials Used
The Japanese-made kotatsu tables we handle feature significant differences in the tabletop materials themselves.
First, the tabletops are made of:
・Solid wood (Japanse cedar (sugi)/Japanese ash(Tamo))
・Natural wood veneer + solid wood edge
・Natural wood veneer
・Melamine board

These natural woods give the tabletop a rich, premium appearance and a warm, authentic texture that improves with use.
In addition, whether we use solid wood or veneer, all of our tables are finished with durable, low-emission coatings designed to minimize chemical substances.
The main finishes we use include:
・TXL Urethane Coating
・Titan FX Coating
Both finishes meet Japan’s safety and durability standards commonly required for high-quality furniture.
<Differences in Low-Cost Kotatsu Tables>
On the other hand, many inexpensive kotatsu tables use mass-produced wood-grain printed sheets (paper or film laminates) for their tabletops.
<Comparison with cheaper alternatives>
| Item | Low-Cost Products | Our Products |
| Surface Material | Wood-grain printed paper | Solid wood or natural veneer |
| Craftsmanship | Mass-produced | Small-batch, artisan-finished |
| Durability | Prone to peeling or warping | Built to last for years |
| Coating | Unknown or not specified | Low formaldehyde, high durability |
Note: These are general comparisons and may not reflect every product on the market.
Social media is highlighting issues commonly seen with low-cost kotatsu, such as “the surface print peeling off” and “the tabletop swelling up.”
