Furniture Made for Your Space
"This table would be perfect if it were just a little narrower."
"If the chair sat an inch lower, it would feel so much better."
Furniture shopping has a way of ending in compromise. You find something close to what you pictured, but rarely something that actually fits. Search for Japanese furniture from outside Japan, and the options narrow even further.
At Interi-An, we build tables and chairs to your dimensions — not the other way around.

Why "Just the Right Size" Is So Hard to Find
Mass-produced furniture is built to standard measurements — the sizes that fit the largest number of homes. It's a reasonable way to manufacture at scale. It's just that no one's living room is actually 'standard.'
A window alcove with an exact clearance. A support column sitting right where a table would go. A dining nook that falls between two standard sizes. None of that is unusual — it's just how real homes are laid out. Look for Japanese furniture from outside Japan and the problem gets worse: most imported pieces come in fixed sizes only, with no way to shift a few centimeters in either direction.

What Custom Sizing Means at Interi-An
We take custom size requests mainly on tables and chairs.
A few examples of what we can do:
- Adjust a dining table's width, depth, or height
- Change a chair's seat height
- Build to whatever dimensions your space actually calls for
"A little smaller than the standard size." "Just the tabletop, at this exact width." Bring us the request and we'll tell you honestly what's possible. We can't accommodate every variation — but we'll work within what the piece and the craftsman's process allow.
When Custom Sizing Makes a Difference
Custom sizing tends to matter most in situations like these:
- A bay window alcove where standard furniture just won't clear the frame
- A two-person household where a 6-seat table swallows the whole room
- A seat height that needs to match a specific body, mobility need, or desk setup
- An apartment dining space that falls squarely between two standard sizes
Once the size is right, the furniture stops feeling like an object placed in the room. It starts feeling like it belongs there.
What Doesn't Change
Requesting a custom size doesn't change anything about the materials, the craftsmanship, or the quality standard behind the piece. It's still natural wood held to a high, voluntary safety standard for formaldehyde emissions. It's still finished by artisans in Okawa. Custom never means a shortcut. It just means the same furniture, built to your measurements instead of ours.

Choose Furniture That Fits Your Space, Once
Furniture that almost fits creates a small friction you feel every single day. Furniture that actually fits just disappears into the room, in the best way.
