Crafted from premium Japanese Oguni cedar, this coffee table showcases the natural beauty of solid wood. 

The surface features a traditional Uzukuri texture, where the softer grain is brushed away to create a rich tactile finish, then coated in a deep black paint for a bold, modern appearance. 

Made from two natural cedar boards without laminated panels, it preserves the live edges to celebrate the tree's original form and strength. Although a burned finish was an option, we chose paint to achieve a deeper black while highlighting the wood's unique texture and grain.

Why Choose the Black Oguni Japanese Cedar Coffee Table

  • Uzukuri (Brushed Wood) Finish

    Uzukuri is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique used to enhance the natural beauty of the wood grain and annual rings. The surface is brushed with a special wire brush to remove the softer parts of the wood, leaving the harder growth rings slightly raised and creating a beautifully textured finish.

    The result is a naturally aged appearance. Since only the harder grain remains, the surface already has subtle highs and lows. As a result, small scratches and dents from everyday use blend into the texture over time, making them less noticeable.

  • Live Edge

    Only the bark has been removed, preserving the natural edge of the cedar in its original form.

    Because every tree grows differently, no two live edges have the same curves or contours. Each table is truly one of a kind, with a unique shape that belongs only to you.

  • Hidden Adjustable Levelers

    Because this table is made entirely from solid wood, slight movement of the wood may occur over time even after proper kiln drying. To ensure long-term stability, discreet adjustable levelers are built into the legs, allowing the table to remain level on a variety of floors while accommodating the natural movement of the wood.

  • Made-to-Order Customization

    As shown in the Product Details, this table can be customized to suit your preferences.

    Because each table is made to order, we carefully select the wood and begin production only after your order is placed. If requested, we can also provide progress updates and photos during the manufacturing process, so you can purchase with confidence and follow the creation of your unique piece.

Product FAQs

Can the table size be customized?

It is possible to adjust the size according to the customer’s preference (some adjustments are not possible). If you wish to customize, please feel free to contact us using the Contact Us link.

Is the assembly of the table necessary? Is there an English instruction manual?

At the time of delivery, some products are also delivered with only the legs removed. Attachment of the legs will be made by either tool or hand-turning. (Customer’s task) An instruction manual with a simple translation will be enclosed.

Does the care method differ depending on the type of finish?

Care instructions by finish:

Urethane Finish:
Maintenance-free for daily use. Wipe with a well-wrung damp cloth. Be sure to wipe up water quickly, as prolonged contact may leave stains.

Oil Finish:
For everyday care, use a dry cloth or a well-wrung damp cloth to remove dust or dirt. Water drops may cause ring stains, so please take care. To prevent wood from drying and cracking, apply furniture oil periodically to maintain its condition.

Unfinished Wood:
Care is the same as an oil finish. Since the wood is untreated, it is more sensitive to dirt and moisture. However, stains can be removed with light sanding, and you may also maintain it with a furniture oil of your choice.

Our company is based in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a region in Japan renowned for its furniture craftsmanship. We can accommodate a wide range of custom requests, including changes to size, wood type, or even fully custom-made orders.

Is there a warranty period?

Our products come with a one-year warranty.

All of the furniture we offer is crafted in factories within Japan and meets high-quality standards. In the unlikely event of an initial defect or manufacturing issue, please get in touch with us within 7 days of delivery. After reviewing the situation, we will provide free repair or replacement.

Please note that damage from customer use, stains, natural aging, or misuse is not covered under the warranty.
