The Zen Pull-out Chest adopts the traditional "zen pull-out" function, passed down since the Edo period, and adds modern practicality to the time-honored design cherished in Japanese Buddhist ceremonies and rituals. It achieves the perfect balance between concealment and display, making it suitable not only as everyday storage furniture but also as an accent piece in Japanese-style interiors.

What is a Zen Pull-out?
A zen pull-out is designed like a drawer that slides out. It is so named because, during periods such as Obon, it is used to place trays (zen). Of course, it is not used exclusively during Obon; originally, it was also employed to hold offerings. Nowadays, it is common to slide out the zen pull-out to place Buddhist implements such as flower stands or fire stands.

Features

  • Adoption of the Traditional Technique "Zen Pull-out"
The mechanism of the zen pull-out was ingeniously devised to beautifully arrange offerings in Japanese Buddhist altars and ceremonial tables. In this chest, the storage space is designed for smooth insertion and removal, ensuring that it remains neatly concealed when not in use and can be quickly accessed when needed.

  • Fusion of Japanese Aesthetics and Modern Design
Featuring exquisite craftsmanship by the artisans of Okawa City in Fukuoka Prefecture—Japan’s largest furniture town—this chest is characterized by a refined modern form. It harmoniously blends traditional Japanese details with simple lines that complement contemporary living spaces.

  • High Quality and Functionality
While preserving the tradition of Japanese craftsmanship, this chest also pursues functionality that meets modern lifestyle needs. It is a reliable product known for its durability and long-lasting use. The interior of the drawer is lined with paulownia wood, renowned in Japanese furniture for its excellent insect and humidity resistance.
